Free Agentic Coding

Let's face it. Not all developers can afford to continuously pay for AI subscriptions. Even a $20 per month can be expensive for many in the Philippines. GitHub Copilot may be free but the rate limits are limiting for heavy users.

If you're one of these people, with this workaround that I'm sharing, you can have an almost unlimited vibe-coding experience.

1. Set up your VS Code with GitHub Copilot

2. Install Opencode

3. Get an API key from Opencode

4. Launch your VS Code and open a terminal

5. Launch Opencode in that terminal

6. Use the API key to connect the free AI agents in Opencode cli (I've use Big Pickle a lot!)

7. Enjoy agentic coding!

8. Use GitHub Copilot for specific line referencing

9. Use Opencode especially when Github Copilot hits the rate limits.

10. Just be careful when prompting in Opencode (or even in Github Copilot) and providing edit access to files.
