5 Ways to Vibe Code Without Breaking the Bank

Vibe coding is the new way to build software. You talk to the AI and it writes the code for you. It feels like magic. But these tools can get expensive very fast. (Most subscriptions cost 20 dollars a month or more).

I believe you do not need a huge budget to be productive. You can build great things even with limited resources. So I found five ways to keep your costs low while still vibe coding.

  1. VS Code and Ollama Cloud Coder Models This is a great setup if you want an agentic experience for free. You use VS Code as your editor and connect it to Ollama. It runs models through free cloud tiers or locally. It can actually take actions for you instead of just giving you text.
  2. Switch Between VS Code and Antigravity You can use these two tools alternately. Both offer free tiers. When you hit a limit on one tool, you just jump to the other. It keeps your workflow moving without needing a credit card.
  3. Use Browser Apps and Copy the Code Well, this is the manual way. You use the free versions of ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini in your browser. You describe what you want and copy the code back to your files. It is not agentic (meaning the AI cannot change your files directly). But it works well. Just use multiple emails to manage your daily limits.
  4. Use Built-in AI from Search Engines Many search engines now have powerful AI features. You can use these just like the browser apps mentioned above. They are usually free and use very smart models.
  5. Use OpenRouter for Subscriptions If you have a small budget, use OpenRouter. It lets you pay only for what you actually use. This is much better than a flat monthly fee. It helps you maximize your money across many different AI models.

Building software should be for everyone. You do not need the most expensive plan to get started. Just pick one of these options and start building.
